Free Laptop Computers: From Scams To The Real Deal
In the past five years there has been a huge proliferation of websites that claim to be giving away free laptop computers. Unfortunately, virtually all of these websites are just plain scams. There are many different types of scams and shady offers but here are the two most common. The first way many of these websites work is that they claim you will get a free laptop after paying a small registration fee and recruiting X number of other people to pay the same fee you did. Like you they love the idea of getting a new notebook computer for almost nothing. But, in effect it is a pyramid scheme, whereby only the first few people who register will get their free laptop computers (If at all), and everyone else will be out the registration fee. The more common scam these days happens when you visit a website which says you can receive a brand new Dell or Apple laptop or any other company's laptop free after completing some offers. Generally speaking there will be 3 tiers of offers you have to complete. The first tier is very easy to complete and includes things like filling-in surveys or downloading ringtones. The second tier is a bit more difficult, like signing up for newspaper subscriptions or mail order DVDs. At this point you will have realized that your laptop is no longer free, but it still seems like a good deal. However, it is the final tier that will really get you. To get your "free" laptop you will have to complete at least one of the final tier offers and these include paying for expensive home renovation memberships, buying expensive rail passes or any number of extremely expensive purchases. In the end, the company can afford to give away a "free" laptop, because they are making far more money off you than the cost of a laptop. And of course they are making tons of money off everyone else who does not even complete the three tiers. Worse yet there are new types of scams being created all the time. Yet, none of this should really be that surprising to you, since as we all know you can't get something for nothing. Thus, I strongly advise you from staying away from any free laptop schemes that require you either to pay money to register, refer other people to the program or require you to complete any offers. Even though most websites claiming to give you a free laptop are total scams, there are still plenty of contests out there where you can enter to win free laptop computers. And while these contest sites can't and don't promise that you will win, they are generally free to enter. Now you may be wondering: why would websites be willing to giveaway a free notebook computer? Certainly, it isn't from the goodness of their hearts. Instead there are two main reasons why certain websites do this. First, they want to drive traffic to their website, and nothing sends traffic to website like giving away free stuff like laptop computers. Second, to register for these contests, you will have to give up some personal information. These websites then either use the information to try and sell things to you or sell your information to other marketers. Thus, if you ever enter a contest be sure to read the privacy policy fine print to know what you are getting into. We don't have any recommended contests at the current time. However, we would love to hear about your experiences trying to get a free laptop computer either from a scam website or contest website. You may be able to prevent people getting scammed in the future. Just fill out the form below the Google ads.
