Cheap Used IBM Laptops And Used ThinkPads

Many websites sell used IBM laptops, so the trick is not where to get them but where to get them cheap. While online stores like Amazon.com can be a good place to start, the absolute cheapest way to buy used laptops are from auction websites.

Plus, they almost always have a far wider selection than even the biggest stores. However, there are a few things to watch out for before buying a used laptop from an auction site.

Many used IBM laptops sold through auction websites don’t come with any form of formal warranty, although this is increasingly less true. Today many sellers on auction sites do offer warranties with their laptops but these tend to be shorter in length than those given on new or even refurbished sales.

That being said buying from an auction website can save you hundreds of dollars compared to even the cheapest refurbished option. Thus, there are a few ways you can still save money and be sure you are getting what you pay for.

Looking at the seller’s reputation rating, which is included in all online auction profiles, is the best way to do this. The two most important things to watch out for are negative feedback and sales experience.

I personally will only buy from vendors who have a 99% or better feedback rating, which means that at least 99 out of 100 people were happy when they bought from them. Much less than that and you may be running into trouble, when buying your used IBM laptop.

In terms of sales experience, I look for sellers who have sold at least a couple hundred items before, since this is an indication that they know what they are doing. Also, it means that their feedback rating means something and is not just due to a handful of buyer’s. Finally, reading other buyer’s comments can be helpful and will let you get a better feel for how the seller does business.

The best and biggest auction sites for used IBM laptops are eBay and Overstock.com, who both, as mentioned above, feature sellers that are willing to give warranties. Thus, in terms of being sure getting what you pay for it is the most reliable choice.

However, if buying from an auction site does not seem like something you would want to do you can always check out our IBM refurbished laptops page instead.

Beyond checking for warranties there is one final thing to look out for when buying used IBM laptops. Always make sure you are getting everything included when you buy. Some sellers, to make their laptops seem cheaper than they really are, do not include any operating system with their computer.

This can also be true for other things that may be necessary for your computer to work. So, be sure to ask and make sure you are getting everything you think you are getting before you pay. After all it is your money. For more information about what to look for in a laptop please visit our Buyer’s Guide.
